In The Last 6 Weeks


I never intended to take this much time away from the blog (and reading blogs), but it happened. Truthfully, I haven’t missed it.  Lately I’ve put a strange amount of pressure on myself to write and be someone I am not. That’s not why I created a blog.

I guess what I need to say is that I am going to be setting the blog aside for a while. I am at a point in my life where I am striving for big changes and big goals. I can’t put a date on when I might blog again, but hopefully I can come back with renewed perspective.

Don’t worry, healthy living friends, I still weigh in every Sunday morning and track with an app on my iPhone. I try to get regular workouts in, and I even gave up sugar for Lent this year. So far the no sugar is going better than regular workouts. Hey, I am a person in progress.

A Very Productive Weekend

Oh, Monday, how I loathe thee.

Lately I have been SO tired. Some nights I am in bed by 9pm. Then I am up by 6am, taking a two hour nap in the afternoon, and back in bed before I realize where the day went. I feel rested when I get up in the morning. I just can’t muster the energy to get through the day without a nap!

On Saturday I took advantage of a burst of energy and some free time. I got a jump start on one of my goals from the new year!

I organized my closet and bathroom cabinets. In the process I produced three boxes full of clothes, shoes, and purses to be donated.

Now, I forgot to take a before picture (bad blogger) but just believe when I say it was a mess! You would have thought you were looking a blob. I am, however, very proud of my after pictures!

The rest of my closet is on hangers and actually wasn’t too bad. But my sweaters, workout clothes, and purses were an absolute disaster. Now, if I can only find a way to keep it looking so organized all year-long.

On Sunday I found an awesome coupon in Cartwheel (an app from Target to save on things you already buy!). 40% off all C9 athletic wear; clothes and shoes! I also had a coupon for $5 off any C9 purchase of $25 or more. PLUS my employee discount was an added bonus. (The 40% off was only good on Sunday, but I suggest checking back often — you can sort offers by discount values)

Alex and I were both in need of some things so we decided to take advantage of the deal!


Sports bra, a shirt, and socks for me. Two shirts, shorts, and boxers for Alex. (He isn’t too excited that I included his boxers in the picture. But hey, guys shouldn’t be working out in regular ole underpants. TRUTH!

The whole haul totaled $81. After coupons, cartwheel, and discount we paid $36 dollars! SWEET!

Burn Baby, Burn

Yesterday was chilly one here in the Sunshine State. Well, by Florida standards anyways. 80+ degree temperatures will be making their return this weekend (just in time for Disney’s Marathon Weekend for those of you that may be partaking).

Alex and I spent the morning lounging around before deciding to catch a movie. We saw the one o’clock showing of Saving Mr. Banks. It was just as good as I hoped it would be!  I highly recommend it.

Saving Mr. Banks only made me want to watch Mary Poppins again. Such a classic. After the movie Alex told me he has never actually seen Mary Poppins. Excuse me? A fellow Disney lover that has not seen Mary Poppins?! Blasphemy!

We grabbed a late lunch then headed for home. It wasn’t even 5 pm and I felt myself getting really tired, but we had plans to go to the gym. Ugh. I almost bailed, but instead I changed into gym clothes and off we went.

Remember how I said I was going stick to the Slow and Steady workout I posted the other day? That didn’t happen. I knew I needed something up tempo to ward off the sleepiness that was rapidly setting in. Here is what I came up with.

Intense Sprints

I probably looked like death once that was over, but surprisingly I was wide awake! I am a slow runner (major emphasis on SLOW!) so sprinting at 7.0 on the treadmill is crazy difficult. That may have been the longest 21 minutes of my life, but in the end I felt really good!

I also completed a brief leg workout on the weight machines. Two sets of leg curls, leg lifts, and leg presses. For me, legs will always be the easiest part of my workouts. (Thanks Mom for enrolling me in all those years of dance and gymnastics!)

Burn baby, burn! We are a week into the new year and I’ve got a great feeling about what 2014 holds for my healthiness journey!
